How it all started
Maxwell Music was established by Alison Smith, who after years of working in the music industry realised there was a need for a comprehensive service where musicians and labels can get help with a broad range of tasks. Much of the feedback received from colleagues and fellow musicians over the years was related to the royalty minefield…. and the fact that many musicians simply don't have the time or the inclination to tackle the online forms, databases or boxes of receipts, especially while busy touring or recording. With so many more artists releasing albums on their own label, there is much more to deal with - barcodes, ISRC codes, MCPS, PPL, manufacturers, designers, distributors, downloads… and the list goes on!
Following a career in multimedia development and project management, while playing fiddle and teaching part time, Alison decided to follow her passion and move into the music industry full time. She started out as General Manager for a music download site, dealing with all aspects of online content creation, site maintenance, contracts and support for all contributing artists and record labels. This work led to freelance administration work for labels and bands, dealing with everything from tour planning and logistics, recording registrations/royalty claims, CD production, online shop management and website updating to bookkeeping, inventory control and sales reporting. She also has 3 years experience as coordinator for Celtic Connections Festival.
Maxwell Music is passionate about helping musicians, composers and record labels receive all royalties due to them and alleviate administrative tasks in order to allow more time to concentrate on the creative process. Whether it be a one off tour or new album, some filing for the tax return, ongoing admin support or simply a barcode, we are happy to help.
